This is a free park in the North of Shenzhen in Longhua District. You can reach it by taking subway line 4 (the red line)
What it is
The full name is the Guanlan Original Printmaking Base (观澜版画基地), an artists’ village in Longhua district built around the area’s printmaking heritage. Guanlan is the ancestral home of the printmaker Chen Yanqiao and of many overseas Chinese, and the base pairs restored Hakka village houses and lotus ponds with print studios, an artist-residency programme and galleries. It hosts the Guanlan International Print Biennial, one of the larger printmaking events in Asia.
Next to it stands the China Printmaking Museum (opened 2018), a striking low white building worth seeing for the architecture alone. The whole site is free, open in the daytime, and makes a calm half-day away from the centre – wander the old village, the paddy fields and the galleries, and stop at one of the cafes.
