Q: I forgot my QQ password. What can I do?
A: There are a few options:
1. (If you set security questions) : Tencent now has an English password retrieval system: you can go to this page to reset it. This page will ask your QQ number and next will ask you to answer the security questions you answered before (for example "Your birth place", "Your mother's name" etc ) If you did not set any password questions, then I believe there is no way to get your password back. If you don't know the answers to the security questions, then I think it's impossible to reset your password.
2. (If you registered with your email address) : I believe Tencent does not mail your password to your email address or email you a reset link, but the email address can still be useful to recover your password: you can send an email to
This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
from your registered email address. The customer service will then try to determine if you are really the person who you claim to be. If your email address matches the registered address, that's something that helps a lot.
3. (If you forgot security questions and didn't register an email address) : You could still try to mail customer service, but the chances of retrieving your password are small. The problem is that it's just very hard to prove that you are really the person who you claim to be. If you decide to mail, try to include some personal details that you used in your QQ profile so they can verify who you are. Perhaps also include some QQ numbers that are on your friends list etc. Nonetheless, it might be better to register a new QQ number .
Tip: If you just registered a new QQ number, it's a good habit to immediately set your security questions. There is now an English page available for this: https://account.qq.com/cgi-bin/en/index (you can also find this link in QQ International - Settings - Security and Privacy). This page will ask you to setup 3 secret questions. Be sure to pick questions that are not too easy to answer, but that you will not forget either!
Note: I sometimes get asked if I can help people reset their password. Unfortunately I cannot do that for a few reasons; 1. Tencent has very strict rules about user accounts. I am not allowed to do this. 2. I don't have access to the system which stores/manages passwords 3. I have no idea if you are really the person who you claim to be. I would like to believe everyone that emails me, but there is just no way to verify for me. So unfortunately I cannot help you, but I hope the points above were of some help though!
