Shenzhen Museum has two locations: a new venue at the Citizens’ Center (Futian district) and the old location near MixC. The new museum is much more interesting and covers the history of Shenzhen from sea-battles, to handicrafts to modern developments. New Location
This venue is located in the eastern part of the Citizen's Center and consists of three floors. The "Ancient Shenzhen" exhibition hall on the second floor measures over 700 square meters. This Exhibition consists of five parts, namely "The Predecessor’s Footmark", "Beginning of the City", "Marine Economy", "An Important Strategic Town on Coastal Defense" and "Ancient Immigration". The Exhibition hall of modern Shenzhen, covering an area of 1294 square meters, is also situated on the second floor. Modern history starts at the Kowloon sea battle in Shenzhen, the opening skirmish to the Opium War. The Exhibition of Modern Shenzhen mainly presents Shenzhen’s history spanning from Kowloon Sea Battle in 1839 to the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. Theme of the Exhibition is structured with two subjects. One is the struggling and fighting against invasion, feudalism and crony capitalism. The other is the development of social economy and ordinary people’s life. Finally the Exhibition of Shenzhen’s reform and opening-up history, covering an area of over 2600 square meters, is presented on the third floor. All exhibitions are interesting and I highly recommend this museum. ![]() Museum's floor-plan ![]() Entrance to the Shenzhen Museum (new location, east side of the Citizens Center ) ![]() Vivid explanations of the battles that took place near Shenzhen ![]() Border guards between Shenzhen and Hong Kong ![]() Children pay respect to the older generation
Old location
The old location has far fewer interesting exhibitions and is a bit of a strange collection of stuff. There are stuffed animals, calligraphy, pottery, paintings etc. There are also temporary themed exhibitions. I've created a video about this museum , so you don't need to go there anymore :)

I recommend going to the new Shenzhen museum. It's quite interesting and has a lot of information about the history of Shenzhen. View Larger Map The entrance to the new location of the Shenzhen Museum is on the right (east) side.
