China has seven public holidays a year. Around the big ones the government shifts nearby weekends to build longer breaks, so an official ‘3-day holiday’ often means working the Saturday or Sunday either side (tiaoxiu, 调休). The two ‘Golden Weeks’ – Spring Festival in January or February and National Day in early October – are when the whole country travels at once: trains and flights sell out weeks ahead, prices spike, and sights in and around Shenzhen (and the border with Hong Kong) get extremely crowded. If you can, avoid arriving or moving on during those weeks. The table below shows the dates and the makeup workdays.
Preliminary / not yet official: China’s State Council typically publishes the final adjusted holiday schedule (including which weekend days become makeup workdays) in late October or November of the preceding year. The 2027 official notice has not been released yet. The dates below are our best-guess extrapolation based on typical recent-year patterns and the lunar calendar anchor dates — treat as expected, not confirmed. This page will be updated once the State Council announcement is out.
